The importance of context is obvious for two reasons. First, we can only understand what a word “book” means or how to interpret the phrase “okay” if we hear them in context. Also, we naturally pick up quite of the language from context rather than through explicit instruction. This is why trainers all over the world use this word so much on their training courses. A good context also motivates learners as it helps them see how the language is used in real life communication, and helps them create more meaningful connections and therefore retain the language better. In this webinar we are going to examine what context is, look at the difference between tasks that are supported by good context and tasks where there is not enough context.
